GRADE 6 PBL PROJECTS

STEM SHOW N' TELL

Students will use their favorite STEM activities from this year to create a short presentation to show how they utilized the engineering and design process to solve a problem.

RAYS & WAVES

This PBL had students look into a resource that surrounds all of each and everyday, waves! Students researched either ocean waves, solar radiation, or UV waves to see how they could be used to better the life of people in Cartagena. They took their research and made either a social media campaign, a blog post, or a letter to a government official. They also worked together in their groups to generate a design or model for a solution to using the waves around us to improve life in Cartagena.

LIVE THURSDAY 6A/6B @11:25AM

GRADE 7 PBL PROJECTS

STUDENT ACTIVISTS

Students identified a problem focused on economic, political, and societal issues on local, national, or global scales.. Students identified the impact of this problem and shared their findings either by an art gallery, creating a plan for a school organization, or community service project.

the ART OF ARGUMENT

English Language Arts & Technology

Over several weeks, the students of 8th-grade practiced arguing and debating. The purpose was to gain a better understanding of the perspectives people have regarding various topics. Through investigation and research, students discussed topics they agreed and disagreed with, as well as topics they were familiar and unfamiliar with. Their final task of this unit was to create a well-structured recording (either a TED TALK or podcast) based on a topic they were familiar with and to discuss that topic from multiple perspectives. They needed to analyze this topic from various viewpoints, either individually or by including others.

“Through the years of film and literature, we have all seen all types of characters. Good, bad, sometimes even half good and half bad. Usually, we only analyze plots and characters from the most definitive novels, like Little Women or The Great Gatsby. But on this occasion we will be talking about a childhood classic. One of the most beloved kid books and films of all time, every child’s favorite wizard. Can you guess who it is…?

"Balanced living means considering all aspects of your life: relationships, work, fitness and health, and emotional well-being. We all get bogged down with work and family responsibilities from time to time, but making time for yourself is necessary so that you can keep up with all your responsibilities." -

Green Design for the Future

In this unit of study, the grade 8 students used data presented in the 2020 Earth Day edition of National Geographic to understand how Climate Change could affect Colombia. They used interactive National Geographic websites to gather more information on the climate of Cartagena, Colombia and how it would change from a tropical savanna to an arid, hot steppe zone like Uribia, Colombia. Students had the opportunity to consult with Ms. Laura Cobo, an architect with experience working in Uribia, Colombia, to learn more about the present day environmental and design challenges in Uribia. This was followed by a research phase where students learned more about environmentally friendly design elements and practices that address future climate challenges. Finally, students used all of this knowledge to design environmentally friendly homes for the future of Cartagena.
